Product Summary

GOSAT-GW/AMSR3 L3 Precipitation (EQR, 0.10 deg, 1-Day) dataset is obtained from the AMSR3 sensor onboard GOSAT-GW and produced by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
GOSAT-GW was launched by the H-IIA Launch Vehicle No. 50 (H-IIA 50) at 01:33 a.m. on Jun 29th, 2025 (Japan Standard Time, JST). GOSAT-GW equipped with AMSR3 takes measurements at multiple microwave frequencies and multiple polarizations of weak electromagnetic waves in the microwave band radiated from the Earth’s surface and the atmosphere. AMSR3 has swath of 1535 km and 11 microwave bands. The observation data will enable the creation of long-term trustworthy data sets of global physical amount.
Level 3 products are gridded data. They store the brightness tempreture or physical parameters data converted using grid processing and temporally statical processing.
This product includes Precipitation (PRC) overwritten by latest data. Although "precipitation" is usually defined as amount of water, which reaches the surface of the earth from atmosphere as rain and/or snow, microwave imager's precipitation products provide amount of rain (surface rainfall). Accuracy of rainfall estimate over land, however, tends to be lower than that over the ocean. Method of rainfall estimate used in AMSR3 precipitation product is also applied to "Global Rainfall Watch" system, which distributes global rainfall map in near-real-time.
The provided format is NetCDF4. The current version of the product is Version 01A. The physical quantity unit is [mm/h]. The generation unit is global. The sampling resolution is 0.10 deg. The projection method is EQR.
