Product Summary

GOSAT-GW/AMSR3 L3 Sea Surface Wind Speed (PS, 25 km, 1-Day) dataset is obtained from the AMSR3 sensor onboard GOSAT-GW and produced by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
GOSAT-GW was launched by the H-IIA Launch Vehicle No. 50 (H-IIA 50) at 01:33 a.m. on Jun 29th, 2025 (Japan Standard Time, JST). GOSAT-GW equipped with AMSR3 takes measurements at multiple microwave frequencies and multiple polarizations of weak electromagnetic waves in the microwave band radiated from the Earth’s surface and the atmosphere. AMSR3 has swath of 1535 km and 11 microwave bands. The observation data will enable the creation of long-term trustworthy data sets of global physical amount.
Level 3 products are gridded data. They store the brightness tempreture or physical parameters data converted using grid processing and temporally statical processing.
This product includes Sea Surface Wind Speed (SSW) overwritten by latest data. SSW product represents wind speed above the ocean surface. Microwave radiometer can observe wind speed under the clouds, but it is difficult to estimate where there is rainfall and will be missing value. Wind speed around tropical cyclones, however, is important parameter in weather forecast, and we provide All-weather Sea Surface Wind Speed (ASW) product, which includes wind speed in rainy area over the ocean, as all-weather wind speed research product.
The provided format is NetCDF4. The current version of the product is Version 01A. The physical quantity unit is [m/s]. The generation unit is global. The sampling resolution is 25 km. The projection method is PS.
