Product Summary
This product consists of satellite-derived daily, half-monthly, and monthly averaged global snow covers derived from 5km resampled radiance data of AVHRR onboard NOAA series satellites (1978-2001), MODIS onboard Terra and Aqua satellites (2000-2024), VIIRS onboard SUOMI NPP and JPSS-1 satellites (2011-the present), and SGLI onboard GCOM-C (2018-the present). The descriptions of the algorithm for snow cover detection and the analysis results of the long-term snow cover extent for the period from 1978 to 2015 are available in Hori et al. (Remote Sensing of Environment, 2017, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rse.2017.01.023 ).
